can you dig it?
It occurred to me recently that I may be too sentimental [yep, that's right...too sentimental-nostalgia is a trait I have long suffered from]. I have always chased the proverbial rainbow, always been a hopeless romantic. No matter how many times I watch Gone with the Wind, I hope Rhett will take Scarlett in his arms and carry her up that staircase one more time. Or that Rick tells Ilsa their love is all that matters and they walk off into the mist together [while Sam "plays it once more for old times' sake" in the background]. I am a dreamer, a firm believer in magic, I'm always looking for signs from the Universe and hopeful that there are enough happy endings to go around [I'm just so me that way].
I love to cruise down memory lane [I have after all had a lively past] and it amuses me to remember certain things, such as, the summer of 1969, it was a gas! [dude! there was Woodstock and a man walked on the moon {far out} we went ape when Abbey Road was released, and tragically lost several friends fighting in Vietnam {BUMMER}]. I love gazing upon old photos worn thin with age and listening to music that evokes the passions of first love. I strive for balance and live for the experiences my life brings, because I'm joie de vivre like that. Maybe nostalgia and a bittersweet awareness of the past and those things left behind is the price we pay in life for moving on. All of this has brought about a glorious knowledge in me that we are only given this fleeting moment in time and although it isn't always easy, we must embrace our greatest challenges and create a peaceful place for our true inner selves. [hey, I like to slip the heavy stuff between the fluff].
so, as promised, here's the fluff......
now, let me set the scene, you poise your fork over the souffle-cakey-brownie-pudding-mousse-like-chocolate cake-y-thing, break through the outer crust and find the "lava"! It is blow back your hair, curl your toes, close your eyes delicious! *SIGH*DEEP BREATHS* INHALE*EXHALE*
This cake is rich, dense, and moist with an intensely ultra chocolate-y flavor, the texture also gets under my skin. While baking this baby rises beautifully then slowly deflates as it is cooling. Another charming thing about this cake is how easy it is to make. This is amazing. Did you hear that? AMAZING!

ReplyDeleteWhenever I make chocolate lava cake, I can never get it right.
ReplyDeleteI either cook it fully so it's just like a cake, or I take it out of the over too soon, and nothing is cooked.
What am I doing wrong? Any one got a good chocolate lava cake recipe that would possibly be one that works? Thanks!
Jillian, try this recipe it always works for me.
ReplyDeleteThese were so hugely successful at two recent dinner parties I hosted. I baked and served them in individual ramekins with chocolate covered strawberries and cream. This will be made often in the future.
